The new building was extended around the corner of the existing building just far enough to create an area in which to house the new boiler needed, with one of the old doors re-used to hide it away in the corner.

The original kitchen had a considerable step down from the hallway. By using a floating floor of thick insulation blocks between new floor joists over old and a 25mm water resistant tongue and groove floor to tile onto it was possible not only to achieve a very high insulation level but also match the internal floor lines.

The combination of a cold colour for the end wall in the kitchen and the newly tiled black and white hallway creates a very visual impact when entering the new kitchen.
