The outside pantry had to be removed and the fact that the kitchen floor was over 2 feet higher than the orangery floor required steps to be created for access.

| Another problem was the fact the cellar beneath the kitchen was accessed from an outside door/well. This had always created a flood in the basement whenever it rained. It has now become a feature hatch in the floor of the orangery. | |||||||||||||

Another issue was the original brickwork and chalk clunch that needed to be preserved for posterity. This was achieved by battens fixed to the mortar leaving the brickwork unscathed and attaching plasterboard over to skim. There was also a manhole that needed capping with an airtight cover. This became almost invisible once the tiled flooring went down |
